Tin diiodide, also known as tin iodide, is a semiconductor material with a narrower band gap than similar Pb-based materials. It can be used to prepare organic-inorganic perovskite films with uniform surface and strong photoluminescence, which can solve the problems of lead toxicity and lead leakage in lead-based perovskite solar cell devices.
It can be used as an analytical reagent to determine rhodium and iridium by spectrophotometry. It can also participate in [CH3(CH2)11NH3]SnI3, a mixed semiconductor with a MoO3-type tin iodide (II) layer.
